Maui Hongwanji Choir Debuts at Fujimatsuri Celebration

The newly formed Maui Hongwanji Choir made its heartfelt debut at the recent Fujimatsuri (Wisteria Festival), commemorating the birth of founder Shinran Shonin. Marking a meaningful milestone in the joint spiritual efforts of the island’s Hongwanji temples, the choir opened the service with moving presentations of two gathas: Amida’s Guide to Life and To All We Owe.

Directed by Joan Tamori, the choir features dedicated members from Kahului, Lahaina, and Wailuku Hongwanji who practiced diligently for months in preparation for their first performance. The choir is open to all interested members from any temple who wish to explore and share the Dharma through the joy of music. New voices are always welcome!
