Rev. Shinkai Murakami will begin Obon Mairi (Obon home visitation) for Wailuku Hongwanji members starting Monday, June 1. Members wishing to receive a home Obon service are encouraged to contact Rev. Murakami at (808) 244-0406 to arrange a convenient date and time. Obon Mairi is part of the Buddhist Obon tradition of remembering and honoring our ancestors. During this time, Rev. Murakami visits members’ homes to conduct a service at the family altar and offer gratitude for those who came before us. Members are kindly asked to clean their butsudan (family altar) and prepare fresh flowers in advance of the service.
