DS Begins Innovative Media Projects

For the first time, Dharma School students will be creating presentations similar to public service announcements (PSAs) using videos, audio, photos, and other visual media. Living in a technological world, students are able to adapt quickly and share their knowledge and creativity through these modern forms of communication.

Media teacher Lori Koyama introduced the project and shared a list of topics based on the temple’s monthly service themes. The 12 students were divided into three groups, with the oldest student in each group taking a leadership role while working with younger students. Each group selected a theme and began “brainstorming” ideas and discussing ways to present their message. As their first group activity, students were challenged to work with classmates of different ages and personalities while practicing cooperation and leadership.

Their next session will focus on “filming”, and students were encouraged to keep their eyes open for ideas—and perhaps capture photos or videos—as they experience their chosen theme.
