Dharma School: Chanting & Appreciation

Chanting: Have you noticed Dharma School students sitting in seats usually reserved for ministers during Sunday service? Rev. Murakami has introduced a new program where youth participate in chanting alongside him during the Gassho to Amida Sutra. Two or three students are guided by the Reverend through the back entrance of the “onaijin” (altar) area and invited to take the ministers’ seats. This practice helps students develop reverence and respect in their roles.

Thank You, Sensei! On March 9, during the Spring Ohigan service, Dharma School students honored Rev. Murakami as part of Minister’s Appreciation Day. The students presented him with heartfelt notes of gratitude, gifts, and leis to express their appreciation for his guidance and dedication. During the Ohigan service, students enjoyed participating in an interactive story activity led by guest minister, Rev. Grant Ikuta of Steveston Buddhist Temple in Richmond, BC, Canada.
