The peace dove is an internationally recognized symbol of peace. Over the years, various stories and traditions have helped explain how the dove came to represent peace. In September in celebration of International Peace Day, teacher Sammy Takamura opened her whole group lesson on peace and compassion with a question for all students. “Why do people have conflicts and arguments, why do people fight?” and “What are some of the ways in which we can resolve conflicts?” Various students offered answers and ideas. She also shared a story of how the dove came to be known as the “peace dove”.
