During the past month, the Sakura 4-H Club came together as one to participate in two special events at the Wailuku Hongwanji Mission (WHM). With members from Friends Forever, Lōkahi Girls, Aloha Girls, and Shining Stars, we combined our efforts take part in the WHM General Clean-up and Obon Festival.
In preparation for the Obon Festival, Sakura 4-H members helped clean the sliding doors and the social hall to make the temple grounds welcoming for the many visitors who would soon arrive. It was a meaningful way to contribute and show pride in our shared space.
We also had the wonderful opportunity to volunteer during this year’s Obon Festival. From selling bowls of delicious ramen and li hing mui crawlers to fun hair pins and glowing LED lanterns. It felt amazing to be part of such a cherished tradition while helping raise funds and creating joyful memories.
We would like to sincerely thank the Wailuku Hongwanji Mission and its members for their continued support of the Sakura 4-H Club. These events reminded us of the power of community and working together. It truly felt like everyone coming together as one, and we’re so grateful to be part of it. Sakura 4-H member
